USW Presents: Black Workers and the American Labor Movement
Black Workers and the American Labor Movement: Reconstruction to Modern Day Confirmation
The stories of well-known trailblazers are ripe for Black History Month and are usually part of the narrative concerning the Black experience in America. This year, United Steelworkers Civil and Human Rights Department invites members to learn about the collective work of Black people who may not be well-known, but whose gifts to labor and labor history are invaluable. We will take a journey from Reconstruction to the present, to re-examine Black peoples’ bestowal in labor history, and to grasp the importance and urgency of organizing Black workers for a healthy and growing labor movement.
